Tattoos, lymph nodes and cancer: what the studies really say
Over the last two years studies have accumulated linking tattoo pigment to lymph nodes and, with conflicting results, to cancer risk. Press headlines have moved from "tattoos raise lymphoma risk" to "no proven link" depending on the article. Tattoo inks and REACH: what the European rule bans and what tests show
Since 4 January 2022 tattoo inks sold in the European Union have been subject to a specific restriction under the REACH regulation. In 2025 and 2026 new studies analysed inks on the market and compared them with European limits, with results that made the news: many samples do not meet the limits.
