Tattoo inks and REACH: what the European rule bans and what tests show
Since 4 January 2022 tattoo inks sold in the European Union have been subject to a specific restriction under the REACH regulation. In 2025 and 2026 new studies analysed inks on the market and compared them with European limits, with results that made the news: many samples do not meet the limits. In this article we explain what the rule provides, what the studies actually measured and what they do not say, and what those who work with these products can check.
